Trail with almost no elevation change, good for cloudy weather. Insight into the architectural heritage of Zhabeshi on the way.
We will pick you up at your guest-house in Mestia and drive you to village Zhabeshi of Mulakhi Community. The village has a lot of old architecture, magnificent towers and Svan “manors”, several old churches with frescoes. The trail starts near a bridge in the eastern part of Zhabeshi. It is not marked, but it is regularly used by the border police, so it starts as a wide and obvious dirt road on the left bank of the Mulkhura river. Follow the dirt road until you come to a large wooden bridge, cross the bridge and turn right. The path will become narrower, but the elevation change is still insignificant. The trail will take you straight to the tongue of Tsaneri glacier, and you will find a great place for a picnic overlooking the patches of ice and snow. You can try going a little further on, but the best view is at the tongue. Take the same route back to Zhabeshi where the driver will pick you up at the drop-off place and bring you back to Mestia. Distance for the day: 12 km. Elevation change insignificant.
