The closest glacier and a good cloudy weather option. Short half a day hike, ideal for acclimatization.
The trail starts 13 km from Mestia, near the Mestiachala border police post. The total walking distance is around 5 km. The first part of the trail goes through a beautiful forest, then the route goes along Chalaadi river, over the moraine. You have to take care in this part, as the stones are tricky and we recommend wearing good trekking shoes and using trekking poles. Otherwise this trail is not difficult. A good option for cloudy weather when panoramic routes are pointless. Please note that it is dangerous to walk on the glacier or off the marked trail because of cracks and continuous stonefall.
