Visit St. George’s church of Nakiphari: + 15 GEL
A very green and friendly valley, trail with a soft elevation gain. Good for acclimatization or cloudy weather. Add a visit to St. George’s church (9th century) with awesome frescoes to complete the day’s impressions.
A wonderful easy hike with no climbing. Lasili is a very green valley, not very steep and the river flows close to the trail. You will need to cross a few bridges on the way, and the final stop is near a big broken bridge that makes further travel possible only on horseback. However you can already see the white snow-covered summits that separate Upper Svaneti from Lower Svaneti: this road was used by locals to reach the annual trade fair in Lower Svaneti before the 1940’s. The hike is a nice cloudy weather option.
If you have time and are interested in culture-heritage, we can include a visit to St.George’s church of Nakiphari into this trip (+ 15 GEL). The church dates back to the 9th century (the building with unique facade bas-reliefs) while the magnificent wall-paintings are attributed to Royal Painter Tevdore of the 12th century. The visit needs to be arranged beforehand with the key-keeper, so let us know in advance.
This route is also possible to do on horseback, see HORSE-RIDING section.
