Get ready to see a big section of the Caucasus including Stavler, Elbrus, Ushba, Asmashi, Tetnuldi from 3000 m and summit Laila from close. One of the best panoramic trails.
This hike repeats the first day of the 4-day mountaineering tour to ascend summit Laila. Since trekkers need to return on the same day, the hike is a long one, so make sure you make a very early start. The driver drops you off in Tskhumari and you follow a marked trail along a wide forest road. Locals use the road to access the pastures. When the forest finishes and you find yourself in the alpine zone, you will see several wooden structures: the one on your right is a hikers’ shelter, while the others that are grouped together are shepherds’ huts. There is a clear stream flowing through the meadow. To get to the first view point take the right path (the huts and the stream will be on your left) and follow it up and gradually turning left a little, until you come to a hill with a sign post on it. The indicators were damaged last year, but the pole survived. From this point you can already see a good panorama with Mt Elbrus. If you are sure that you have enough time and energy, you can go in the direction of location “4” on the map to get a glimpse of summit Laila from close. The ground is covered with patches of snow until August, so not all the trails and markings are visible, but it isn’t difficult to understand where you are.
The driver will pick you up in Tskhumari where he dropped you off.
This route is also possible to do on horseback, see HORSE-RIDING section.
